Folding wear resistance
The wear resistance of UHMWPE ranks first among plastics and exceeds that of some metals. Figure 1 compares the wear resistance of UHMWPE with other materials. As can be seen from Figure 1, compared with other engineering plastics, the pulp wear index of UHMWPE is only 1/5 of PA66, and 1/10 of HEPE and PVC. Compared with metal, it is 1/7 of carbon steel and 1/27 of brass. Because of such high wear resistance, it is difficult to test the wear resistance of plastics by using the general wear test method. Therefore, a kind of testing device for the wear resistance of mortar is specially designed. The wear resistance of UHMWPE is proportional to the molecular weight. The higher the molecular weight, the better the wear resistance.
Folding impact resistance
The impact strength of UHMWPE ranks top among all engineering plastics. Figure 2 shows the impact strength comparison between UHMWPE and other engineering plastics. It can be seen from Figure 2 that the impact strength of UHMWPE is about 2 times that of impact resistant PC, 5 times that of ABS, and more than 10 times that of POM and PBTP. The impact resistance is so high that it is difficult to break it by the usual impact test methods. The impact strength increases with the increase of molecular weight, and reaches the maximum value when the molecular weight is 1.5 million, and then decreases with the increase of molecular weight. It is worth pointing out that it can also maintain excellent impact strength in liquid nitrogen (-195ºC), which is not found in other plastics. In addition, it has higher hardness on repeated impact surfaces.
Folding self lubricity
UHMWPE has a very low friction coefficient (0.05~0.11), so it has excellent self-lubrication. Table 1 shows the friction coefficient comparison between UHMWPE and other engineering plastics. As can be seen from Table 1, the friction coefficient of UHMWPE is 1/2 of PA66 and POM under water lubrication conditions, which is second only to PTFE with the best self-lubricating properties in plastics under no lubrication conditions. When working in sliding or rotating form, it lubricates even better than steel and brass with lubricating oil. Therefore, in the field of tribology, UHMWPE is known as an ideal friction material with very good cost/performance.
Chemical resistance to folding
UHMWPE has excellent chemical resistance, in addition to strong oxidizing acid, in a certain temperature and concentration range of corrosive media (acid, alkali, salt) and organic media (except tea solvent). It was impregnated in 80 organic solvents at 20ºC and 80ºC for 30 days without any abnormal appearance and almost no change in other physical properties.
Absorbability of folding impact
UHMWPE has excellent impact energy absorption, the impact energy absorption value is the highest among all plastics, so the noise damping performance is very good, with excellent sound reduction effect.
Folding resistance to low temperature
UHMWPE has excellent low temperature resistance and is ductile at liquid helium temperatures (-269 ° C), so it can be used as a low temperature resistant component in the nuclear industry.
Folding is sanitary and non-toxic
UHMWPE is hygienic and non-toxic and can be used in contact with food and drugs.
Folding nonstickiness
UHMWPE surface adsorption ability is very weak, its anti-adhesion ability is second only to the best plastic PTFE, so the surface of the product and other materials are not easy to stick.
Folding water absorption is small
UHMWPE water absorption is very low; Generally less than 0.01%, only 1% of PA66, so it is generally not necessary to dry before molding.

UHMWPE has the necessary structural characteristics of tensile orientation, so it has unmatched ultra-high tensile strength. Therefore, fibers with ultra-high elastic modulus and strength can be prepared by gel spinning method, with the tensile strength up to 3~3.5GPa and the tensile elastic modulus up to 100~125GPa. The specific strength of the fiber is the highest of all the fibers that have been commercialized to date, four times stronger than carbon fiber, 10 times stronger than steel wire, and 50 percent stronger than aramid fiber.
